Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a neoplasm with a dismal prognosis, whose incidence is increasing worldwide [1]. Only a minority of patients are amenable to multimodality treatment including surgery, and most are treated with chemotherapy during the course of their disease [2]. The combination of pemetrexed with cisplatin is the standard of care in the first-line setting [3].
